Description
Melissa, also known as Melissa officinalis, is an herbaceous perennial native to southern Europe. This plant, renowned for its fragrant green leaves and white to pale yellow flowers, typically grows to a height of 1.5 to 2 feet [45 to 60 cm]. Melissa essential oil is extracted through steam distillation of the stems and leaves. Celebrated for its calming and uplifting properties, this essential oil features a subtle lemon aroma that enhances its appeal in both culinary and medicinal applications. Directions For Use
Diffusion: Add 4 drops to the diffuser.
Internal Use: See the individual brand's recommendation.
Topical Use: Mix 5 drops of essential oil with 10 ml of carrier oil and apply to the skin.
Oil Applications
When applied topically, its anti-inflammatory, anti-fingal, and antibacteiral properties protect the skin and aid in the treatment of skin conditions such as acne, eczema, dermititis, and minor cuts and wounds. It can also combat Candida overgrowth. Furthermore, Melissa essential oil has anti-viral qualities that prove effective in combating the herpes virus, and other viral infections.
Internal use of Melissa essential oil can help digestion and reduce PMS and menstruation symptoms, and it can improve blood pressure results by lowering triglycerides and cholesterol. Also, it has been found to lower blood glucose levels. In addition, its anti-inflammatory qualities have beneficial effects on the whole system.
In aromatherapy, it is known to enhance mood and help counteract depressive symptoms and anxiety.
